New York State Parks accepted the Final Generic Environmental Impact Statement as lead agency on 7 January 2026. It is the document behind almost every specific number on this website.

On 7 January 2026 the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, acting as lead agency, accepted the Final Generic Environmental Impact Statement for the Hudson Highlands Fjord Trail. A signed Findings Statement followed.
For a visitor this is a dry milestone, but it is the source of nearly everything specific this website is able to say. The trail's length and width, the number of toilets planned at each entry, the parking counts at the Notch and Wade's Hill, the fact that Dockside Park is intended to have no parking at all, the two alignment options still under study between Fishkill Creek and the state park — all of it is in that document rather than in a brochure.
It is also the reason our map can show a line at all. There is no published map file of the Fjord Trail anywhere; the alignment shown on this site was traced from the review's own figures, and is accurate to roughly 15 to 25 metres.
The document set is kept in the archive at permanent URLs. As of May 2026 the review is the subject of active litigation.
