Information

Prototype notice

This is prototype text describing how the rebuilt site behaves. It is not legal advice and it is not HHFT's adopted policy. The current site's policy predates the analytics, donation and CRM tools now in use, which is why it needs rewriting rather than migrating.

What this site stores on your device

  • Your preferences — language, larger map labels, high-contrast map, reading direction along the trail. Stored locally; never sent anywhere.
  • The offline pack, if you choose to save it — map tiles, terrain, trail records, notices, a year of tide predictions and about thirty content pages, roughly 6 to 7 MB. It lives in your browser's storage, you can delete it from this site or from your browser at any time, and it contains no personal data.

What we do not do

  • Nothing on this site calls a third party from your browser. Weather, tide, train and road data are fetched by our servers, normalised and re-served from our own domain — so reading a train time does not hand your IP address to a transit agency's analytics.
  • No location leaves your device. “You are here” is opt-in, never on by page load, and the calculation happens locally.
  • No advertising trackers, no social pixels, no session recording.

Analytics

We measure which pages are used so the site can be improved. Any analytics on the production site should be configured to store no personal data and to require no cookie banner — a consent wall in front of a park's opening hours is a poor trade, and one peer site in our research put its elevator status behind exactly that.

When you give us data

Volunteer sign-ups, donations and newsletter subscriptions send what you type to the systems that process them, and those systems have their own policies. Each form says, at the point of asking, where the data goes and why each field is needed. Fields that are not needed are not asked for.
