Conditions
Weather, tides, trains, roads and closures — each one with its source and the time it was read.
Everything below is fetched by this website's own servers, normalised, and served from our own address. Your phone never contacts the National Weather Service, NOAA, the MTA or 511NY. Every module says where its number came from and when — and if a source is out of date or unreachable, it says that instead of guessing.
Closures and advisories
One record per closure, wherever it came from. A Metro-North service alert and a Fjord Trail construction closure are the same kind of thing to this site: both appear here, on the map, on the affected trail section, on the affected trailhead page and in the trip planner, from a single source. Nothing is copied, so nothing can drift out of step.

No trains stop here. Closed April 2025, being rebuilt as part of the Fjord Trail.

Weather hazards
Watches, warnings and advisories in force over any part of the corridor. Checked against all three trailhead points, because the trail spans two forecast offices.

The river
Predicted tide
The Hudson is tidal here. Low water opens the beach at Little Stony Point and the mudflats along the shoreline; high water closes them.
- Low water Monday, August 10 · -0.1 ft
- High water Monday, August 10 · 4.1 ft
- Low water Tuesday, August 11 · 0.0 ft
- High water Tuesday, August 11 · 3.1 ft
These are astronomical predictions above mean lower low water, not measurements. A strong wind or a heavy rain upstream will beat them. There is no working river gauge near this trail — the two nearest were discontinued in 2014 and 2019 — so nobody can honestly publish a live river level here.
The tide table is not loaded. Tide predictions for Beacon are published by NOAA station 8518934. Assume the shoreline and beach may be under water.

Why this is not live yet, and exactly what it takes
- Register for a free developer key at https://511ny.org/developers/help, in HHFT’s own name.
- Set HHFT_511NY_KEY in the build environment.
- That is the entire task. The adapter, the geographic filter, the dd/MM/yyyy date parser and the severity mapping are already written and are exercised against the captured corridor sample.
There is no NYSDOT traffic camera on Route 9D between Cold Spring and Beacon, so this tells you about the drive in and nothing about conditions at the trailhead. Roadside parking on 9D is prohibited and enforced.
Road information is unavailable. Check 511ny.org before you drive. Route 9D is narrow, has no shoulder for most of the corridor, and roadside parking is prohibited — if the lot you are heading for is full, there is no second option nearby.

Not live. 511NY requires a developer key registered in HHFT’s name — a five-minute client task we will not do on their behalf. This is the captured corridor sample, shown so the module can be reviewed now.
Shuttle
Fjord Trail shuttle — not in service
There is no Fjord Trail shuttle yet. There is no operator, no vehicles and no timetable, so there is nothing here to be live about. Shuttle service is planned to begin in summer 2027, alongside the Breakneck Connector and the Dutchess Manor Visitor Center.
What to do instead today: Metro-North serves Cold Spring for the southern end of the corridor and Beacon for the northern end, and live times for both are on this page. The nine potential shuttle stops are already drawn on the map as planned locations.
The adapter is written and switched off. It reads
HHFT_SHUTTLE_GTFS_RT_TRIP_UPDATES and
HHFT_SHUTTLE_GTFS_RT_VEHICLE_POSITIONS. It is currently
disabled, because those variables are unset.
The seven clauses that make this feed exist in 2027
Not a website deliverable. It is the difference between the interface being filled and never being filled, and it belongs in the shuttle operator's contract:
- A GTFS static feed updated within 24 hours of any schedule change.
- GTFS-Realtime TripUpdates and VehiclePositions, refreshed at 30 seconds or better.
- GTFS-Realtime ServiceAlerts for cancellations and detours.
- occupancy_status populated on VehiclePositions — this is the crowding indicator, and it is a standard field.
- Feeds accessible over HTTPS to HHFT and its designated web vendor, at a stable URL, with either no authentication or a long-lived API key.
- wheelchair_accessible set on every trip.
- HHFT retains the right to redistribute this data publicly.
The same adapter, reading a real park shuttle
This is Acadia National Park in Maine — a public, keyless GTFS-Realtime feed — read through the exact adapter the Fjord Trail shuttle will use. It is here so the shuttle code path is exercised by live data before HHFT has a single bus. Nothing on this card describes anything in the Hudson Valley.
| Vehicle | Route | Reported | Occupancy |
|---|---|---|---|
| 239 | 1 | 1:31 PM | empty |
| 257 | 1 | 1:30 PM | empty |
| 258 | 6 | 1:30 PM | empty |
| 260 | 10 | 1:30 PM | empty |
| 361 | 4 | 1:31 PM | full |
| 363 | 4 | 1:31 PM | full |
The Occupancy column is GTFS-Realtime's occupancy_status
field. It is the RFP's "crowding indicator", it is a standard enum, and it is already
flowing out of a park shuttle in Maine today. Requiring it in the operator's contract
costs nothing; retrofitting it costs a great deal.
The demonstration feed could not be reached. That has no effect on anything a visitor to the Fjord Trail needs — it only means this particular proof is not visible right now.

This is Acadia National Park in Maine, read through the same adapter the Fjord Trail shuttle will use.
What this page cannot tell you
Four of the operational signals a park website is usually asked for do not have a data source anywhere — not because the integration was skipped, but because the thing being measured does not exist yet. Rather than show a plausible number, each one says so, tells you what to do instead, and names the interface that is already written and waiting.
Shuttle arrivals — no data source exists
There is no Fjord Trail shuttle. No operator, no vehicles, no stops in service and no feed. Service is planned to begin in summer 2027.
What to do instead: Metro-North serves Cold Spring and Beacon today, and both are on this page with live information.
What is already built: The GTFS-Realtime adapter is written and switched off. It is exercised in this build against Acadia National Park’s live shuttle feed.
Parking availability — no data source exists
There is no lot, no sensor, no counter and no reservation system in the corridor, and no NYS Parks feed. Acadia — the busiest park in the Northeast, with a chronic parking problem — chose a forecast over a live feed.
What to do instead: Arrive by train, or before 9 am on a summer weekend. Roadside parking on Route 9D is prohibited and enforced.
What is already built: The ParkingFacility / ParkingObservation / ParkingForecast model requires a `confidence` field, and the UI switches on it. Where confidence is `forecast` it can only ever say "usually full by 9 am on summer Saturdays" — the type system will not let it render a live-looking number.
Crowding — no data source exists
Nobody in the US park set has live crowding. Verified negative at Zion, Rocky Mountain and Muir Woods; all of them manage demand with scheduling and forecasting, not sensing.
What to do instead: November to March are usually the least crowded months, and early morning is quieter than midday all year.
What is already built: A 0–3 modelled busyness band, always labelled with its source, seeded from Acadia’s historical-forecast logic. It will never be presented as a measurement.
On-trail counts — no data source exists
There are no counters on the alignment, because there is no alignment on the ground yet.
What to do instead: Trail-section status comes from the closure records on this page.
What is already built: Eco-Counter units on the Breakneck Connector would populate the same busyness model. The read-API clause belongs in that procurement, not in a change order afterwards.

This table is normally a staff view. It is public here because a site that says "live" ought to be willing to show which of its sources are actually working, which are switched off, and what it would take to switch them on. The machine-readable version of everything on this page is at /api/v1/conditions.json, and the notice records are at /api/v1/notices.json — the same JSON this site consumes, offered to anyone who wants to republish it, including NYS Parks and the MTA.
