What this does

It reads 9 itineraries, 11 trail sections and every current closure notice, and works out which routes fit what you tell it. Everything it shows you carries the number it relied on and where that number came from.

• It removes routes that are closed on your date, and says which notice closed them and what to do instead — rather than showing you a route that is shut.
• It answers “how far”, not just “yes” or “no”. If a route works for the first four miles and then does not, it says where you turn around.
• It publishes the formula. Every time estimate on this site links to the arithmetic that produced it. AllTrails' difficulty ratings do not contain a single number; ours are nothing but numbers.
• It runs with no signal. The whole planner is a pure function over the content, and the content travels with the page. Put your phone in airplane mode, change the date, and watch the answer change.

What it will not do

• Tell you a trail is open when it is not. None of the Fjord Trail is built. It opens in phases between 2027 and 2031, and every route says which phase it is in. What you can walk today is on the trail page.
• Give you a slope we measured. Nothing on this trail has been surveyed, because there is nothing yet to survey. Grades are modelled from USGS 3DEP elevation over an alignment traced from published planning figures, and every one of them says so.
• Send a train to Breakneck Ridge. That station has had no scheduled service since 21 April 2025. The planner says so instead of showing you an empty arrivals board.
• Store anything. Your answers travel in the address bar. Nothing is sent anywhere, which is also why you can text the results page to whoever you are going with.
