Your answers here travel to the routes in the web address, and only a script can write them there. Yours is not running, so a tick on this page would be dropped without telling you — and being handed a route with forty steps in it after asking for step-free is the worst thing this site could do to you.

So the same question, with the same definitions, is on the routes page instead, where it works with no script at all. Two ways through:

Each of these is a separate page, worked out on the server by the same function as everything else here. Real addresses: bookmark them, text them, open them with no signal.

Your own numeric limits — slope, tread width, bench spacing — cannot be carried without a script either. The routes page uses the published defaults, and says which they are on every answer.

One more thing about this browser. It does not support the CSS :has() selector, which is what removes the tick boxes below when scripting is off — so they are still on the page. They cannot reach the answer. Use the button or the links above instead.

We will only use this to pick routes. It is not stored, not sent anywhere and not remembered — your answers travel in the address bar, which is also why you can text the results to whoever you are going with. Choose as many as apply, or none.

Step-free the whole way — selected
What we mean: No steps, no stiles and no kerbs without a ramp, from the parking space or the station platform to the far end of the route and back. Where a route is step-free only as far as a point, we say where that point is rather than calling the whole route step-free.
Somewhere to sit at least every quarter mile — selected
What we mean: A bench or a resting place with a level surface beside the path, at intervals of no more than 1,320 ft (400 m), with space beside it for a wheelchair or a pushchair so that resting does not mean blocking the path.
An accessible restroom on the route — selected
What we mean: A restroom on or within 100 yards of the route with a step-free approach, a door at least 32 in clear, and a transfer space beside the toilet. "Accessible" here does not mean "there is a portable toilet in the parking lot".
Shade for most of the route — selected
What we mean: Tree canopy or built shade over more than half the length. This matters more than it sounds: the National Weather Service recorded a wet-bulb globe temperature of 28.3 °C in this corridor on 7 August 2026, which is the level at which organised outdoor activity is normally curtailed.
Quiet — away from traffic noise — selected
What we mean: Not within earshot of Route 9D or the Metro-North line for most of the route. The Hudson Line runs the length of this corridor and freight trains use it at night, so "quiet" here means quieter, not silent.
I am travelling with a service animal — selected
What we mean: Service animals are welcome everywhere the public may go, so this never removes a route. Selecting it adds the relief areas, the water points and the surface temperature note to each answer, which is what a handler actually needs to plan around.
I will have a stroller or a wagon — selected
What we mean: Wide enough for a stroller to pass another person, firm enough for small wheels, and no steps. A route can be fine for a wheelchair and awkward for a wagon, and the other way round, so this is a separate question.

Set your own limits

The defaults are the US Access Board's numbers for outdoor trails. They are a standard, not a judgement about you — change them and the answers change.

Steepest running slope you will take (%) Default 8.33 — the ABA §1017.7.1 figure. Set it to 5 for gentle only.

Narrowest tread width you can use (inches) Default 36 — the ABA minimum. Recorded and shown, but it cannot filter anything yet: no width has been measured anywhere on this trail, because the trail is not built.

Longest gap between places to sit (feet) Default 1320 — a quarter of a mile.

Skip — nothing to plan around

You said you have i'm not sure yet and are arriving on the fjord trail shuttle. We will still show you routes — and say plainly what to do until the shuttle exists.

Every route below is also on the trail list, which works with the map switched off. The numbers and how we work them out are on how we calculate this. If something here is wrong, tell us — we would rather fix a slope figure than defend it.
